Giro d’Italia stage 18, the longest of the Giro d’Italia 2016 with 240 km to go. The determination of Genki Yamamoto went in the escape with Gianfranco Zilioli and other 22 escapers. With an advantage of more than 11 minutes the escape, begun at km 10 of race, then divided in different groups in very last chilometers due to the battle for the stage victory of Trentin (Etixx).
For the two #OrangeBlue riders the 3 weeks of Giro have been counting against top level competitive riders, but both of them finished the race in front of the Pink Jersey group completing the action with more of 230 km in front of the race.
Genki Yamamoto is happy for his first great escape in Giro d’Italia: “It was my big desire to be into an escape in this Giro, and I made it, thanks to Giuliani sports director and my teammates, in the breakaway that arrived until the finish line today, but in last km against such top level rider there was not yet chance for me. I hope to have been honoring my country at the best as the only Japanese rider in race today.”
