Hard race today with a heavy rain for all the 185 km. Eduard Grosu went close to the podium with a final 4° position. In the morning also an escape of Giacomo Berlato.
Ciriè, Gran Piemonte arrival. At the end of a long day of ride and rain, Eduard Grosu went close to the podium for the NIPPO Vini Fantini, 4° on the finish line, third in the sprint. The winner is Jan Bakelants fro AG2R with a final attack in which also Pierpaolo De Negri tried to be in. The rider of the French team arrived first alone with few seconds of advantage on the group. In the sprint third place of Eduard Grosu that close with a 4° place in the final ranking closing a good day of the #OrangeBlue team.
In the morning an important escape of 13 riders has started, among them also Felline (Trek) one of the favorite and the last one to give up. At the begin with him also Giacomo Berlato of the NIPPO Vini Fantini. The group reached the escapers one by one and it ended with the final sprint.
Eduard Grosu: “I’m not so happy for the placement because after 185 km of hard race, to not reach the podium for few meters is a pity. But this is cycling, we will try again”
Stefano Giuliani: “Not everyone know that Eduard was ill until yesterday, and not sure to start the race. Today, with such kind of rain, to end this race was already a result in his conditions. If he would go on the podium it would be incredible. The team have done a good race, we have to put a rider in the morning escape and we did it with Berlato. Then not so lucky Damiano Cunego with two punctures in a difficult part of the race, but overall it was a good day for us.”
