4th of March 2018, GP Industria & Artigianato
Marco Canola close to the victory in the Gran Premio Industria & Artigianato, the second race valid for the Cycling Cup 2018. After a race as a protagonist, the #OrangeBlue Leader achieved the first podium of the season. A result obtained with determination and motivation and the support of a team arrived in Larciano to obtain a great result. Ivan Santaromita and Nicola Bagioli were precious for the achievement of the second position, always supporting the leader and arriving respectively in 12th and 15th place.
THE RACE
The edition N 41 of the GP Industria & Artigianato was decided in the last 5km. Marco Canola reaches the second position behind Mohoric Matej, Bahrain team Merida. In Larciano the race exploded from the first kilometers, with a group of seven riders who managed to complete the breakaway of the day, earning a substantial advantage over the rest of the group in the first laps of the city circuit. The forcing of the pursuing teams reduces the margin from the head of the race, until completely annulled at the entrance of the last climb of San Baronto, when there are 20 km to the finish line.
It is during this last fraction that Nicola Bagioli first and Ivan Santaromita then confirm their great condition by trying several times to lengthen the rest of the group. While it is announced a final, during the last descent Mohoric Matej surprises everyone, with an action that allows him to gain precious seconds. The leader of NIPPO Vini Fantini Europa Ovini tries to respond to the attack by managing to get only 4 “from the fugitive, but will have to settle for an excellent second place.
On the finish-line, even if Marco Canola reached a great podium with big motivation and a good race he is also a little bit disappointed: “A podium that could be a victory playing in a different way the very final part of the race.” explained Marco Canola. “Probably if I would start to chase Matej Mohoric some hundreds meters before without hesitate I could play for victory. I almost caught him that was very few meters in from of me. They also play well so congrats to the winner of the race. It is a very important podium for me and for my team in Italy, with all the team we have been working very well, with Santaromita and Bagioli making a great final also, we made a good team work. Now I can look forward to Tirreno-Adriatico and most of all to Milano-Sanremo and Amstel Gold Race, that are very important race for me and for the team.”
