7th stage of the Tour of Japan, with a mixed road, perfect for an action like the one of Marco Canola that re-gain 2:30 minutes in the general ranking from the leader, after the Fuji. Not enough for the general ranking (10° place joined today), but very good for the point ranking, thanks to the final podium of the stage.
Izu › Izu – 122km
After the Mont Fuji stage, that designed a totally new general ranking, with the leadership of the Spanish climber and winner of the 2016 edition Pujol (Team UKYO), today the NIPPO Vini Fantini team and Marco Canola tried an action 50km before the finish-line.
The seventh stage was a mixed circuit, like a monuments of cycling, inside a stage Tour. The perfect stage for Marco Canola, that thanks to his perfect condition, and going on podium, he gain more than 2 minutes and an half to the general ranking leader. Not enough to come back in the battle for the first place, but enough to be in the top ten and the leader of the point ranking. Again Canola made a great show, appreciated by all the public in Japan.
THE STAGE.
A stage very dynamic, with action starting by far away. Marco Canola decide to start 50km before the finish-line, with the collaboration of another escaper they almost get the first breakaway of the day. At the end for him is third place of the day, more important points for the special point ranking and another important results.
Behind him the group speed was quite hight and controlled by the general ranking leader team in order to not let him gain so much minutes of advatange.
Now the results of Marco Canola in the Tour of Japan are 3 victories and one podium, with a point jersey victory that is very close, with only one stage, the final circuit of Tokyo missing.
